Ouzoud Waterfalls 1 Day Trip from Marrakech

The adventure starts around 8:00 AM. We pick you up from your hotel (or the nearest accessible point) and head northeast. It’s a bit of a drive, about 2.5 to 3 hours, but the scenery keeps you glued to the window. You’ll watch the landscape shift from the dry Haouz plains to the rich, red earth of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

We break up the journey with a coffee stop, giving you a chance to stretch your legs and breathe in the cleaner, cooler mountain air. By late morning, we arrive at the village of Ouzoud.

Here’s where the fun begins. The falls are actually below the village, so you start at the top and hike down.

You have two choices: wander solo or grab a local guide (usually hanging around the drop-off point). My advice? Hire the guide for a few dirhams. They know the shortcuts, the best photo angles, and exactly where the monkeys like to hang out.

As you descend the winding path shaded by olive trees, you’ll hear the roar of the water getting louder. Keep an eye on the trees, the wild monkeys are usually playful, but hold onto your sunglasses! When you reach the bottom, the view is humbling. The power of the water crashing down is something you feel in your chest.

For lunch, skip the packed sandwich. There are dozens of small, charming restaurants lining the path, many with terraces that look directly at the falls. There is nothing quite like eating a hot chicken tagine while watching rainbows form in the waterfall mist.

After lunch, you can cross the river on the wooden bridges or pay a small fee to take the famous little boats for a closer look. Then, it’s time for the climb back up. It’s a bit of a workout (lots of stairs!), but there are plenty of spots to rest and buy souvenirs on the way up.

We meet back at the minibus around 4:00 PM. The drive back to Marrakech is usually quiet, most people are happily exhausted from the hike. We’ll drop you back at your accommodation around 7:00 PM, just in time for a shower and dinner.
