Continue Browsing TripsMarrakech is incredible, but the bustling streets and city heat can eventually wear you out. When you need a quick reset, a 1 day trip to Ourika Valley is the absolute best way to catch your breath. Just an hour outside the city, you'll trade the dusty plains for lush olive groves, terraced hillsides, and the crisp, clean air of the High Atlas Mountains.
This isn't just a scenic drive; it’s a full immersion into the Moroccan countryside. You'll hike up to rushing waterfalls, step inside a traditional home for mint tea, and eat lunch with the river flowing right past your table.
Because we work with Local Experts and use Fully Insured vehicles, the logistics are entirely handled. Plus, with our 24/7 Support, your only job is to relax and enjoy the scenery. If you're building your 2026 or 2027 itinerary, this day trip is the refreshing mountain escape you'll definitely want on your schedule.
We kick things off with an early morning pick-up right from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, usually around 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM. The drive to the valley only takes about an hour, but the landscape changes drastically. You’ll watch the city fade into small towns, picturesque terraced hillsides, and eventually, the snow-capped mountain peaks of the Atlas range in the distance.
Along the way, we stop at a traditional Berber village. You actually get to step inside a local family home here. It's a great opportunity to admire the authentic architecture, sit down for a cup of sweet Moroccan mint tea, and get a feel for how the locals live. Afterward, we usually stop at a women’s Argan oil cooperative so you can see exactly how this "liquid gold" is produced by hand, with a chance to test out some of the local products.
Once we reach the village of Setti Fatma, it’s time to stretch your legs. One of the absolute highlights of this trip is the hike up to the waterfalls.
I’ll be honest, it does require some physical activity. It’s a moderate hike along a scenic, sometimes rocky path, but the mountain views are incredible. You’ll pass by several small waterfalls as you climb. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because you definitely don't want to do this walk in flip-flops!
After a good hike, you’ve earned a solid meal. We head back down to the valley floor where you can grab a traditional Moroccan lunch at one of the many riverside cafes. Picture this: eating a hot tagine, fluffy couscous, or grilled meats while listening to the calming sound of the river flowing right next to you.
After lunch, you have free time to explore the area at your own pace. You can snap some photos of the stunning landscape, shop for unique souvenirs at the local markets, or just sit back and let the natural setting of the valley help you unwind before we drive back to Marrakech.
