About Casablanca
Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its economic capital. It sits on the Atlantic coast and is where most visitors land, but it is far more than an airport stop. The city mixes an old medina, Art Deco streets from the French protectorate years, and a modern corniche lined with cafes and beach clubs.
Its landmark is the Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993 and built partly over the ocean. It has the tallest minaret in the world, and it is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors can enter on a guided tour. Nearby, the Habous quarter shows a calmer, more traditional side of the city, with arcades, bookshops and pastry stalls.
Casablanca works well as the first or last stop of a longer trip. Our team arranges airport transfers, private drivers and guides, and can combine the city with Rabat, Fes, Chefchaouen or Marrakech.
In Casablanca, Morocco's past and its future share the same stretch of coast.
What to see
One of the largest mosques in the world, with a 210 m minaret, hand-carved cedar and marble, and a prayer hall that opens onto the ocean.
The seafront promenade, lined with cafes, restaurants and beach clubs. A good place for a sunset walk.
The "New Medina" built in the 1930s, with white arcades, craft shops, bookstalls and some of the city's best pastries.
The original walled town on the coast, quieter and less touristic than Fes or Marrakech, with local markets and small shops.
Mohammed V Square, the Central Market and the avenues around them show the city's 20th-century architecture.
The capital is under an hour away by train, with the Kasbah of the Udayas and Hassan Tower. El Jadida and its Portuguese cistern are also an easy day trip.
